Enjoying the benefits of the beach and the cool breeze from the ocean can be upset if a beach home has an issue. A beach house could be a vacation spot or a permanent residence. Knowing some tips to preserving your beach home are important.

There are a variety of things to consider when preserving a beach home. It could be damaged from storms or from being left vacant when not in use. Winterizing your home is important; pipes freezing and bursting may cause damage. You can find a checklist for winterizing by simply searching online.

Consider all variety of storms. Prepare your beach home for bad weather. A broken window leaves the beach house open to the elements bringing debris, dirt, leaves and rain inside to ruin the interior. It will also open it up to animals. One option is to cover the windows with shutters or boards.

Routine care tips are important to follow and can be learned from a policy expert. Check the roof, for example, to make sure the shingles are secure. A bad shingle, or one that is missing, could lead to a leak. If this happens and the homeowner is away for a while, it could cause a major expense. Call on a professional to handle the job or do it yourself.

Even while working to preserve a beach home, damage can occur. This means buildings insurance is needed. Finding the proper policy starts by talking to an insurance agent.

Make sure you take the necessary steps to preserve your beach home in its best condition.

Miami, Florida is one of the most popular travel destinations in the country. Although the city has its share of weather problems during winter, tourists flock to Miami for sunny days on the beach and cool nights at the club. While Miami is a tourist attraction for many, you don’t have to pay the tourist price when you travel. Instead of staying in Miami like most, consider traveling to nearby regions by cruise ship.

Major Cruise Specials

There are an array of cruise deals available to Miami travelers. While most cruise liners offer 50% off your entire purchase if you leave from Miami, some companies offer additional incentives such as free food or gift shop privileges. Even if you buy a package that only offers a large discount, the amount of money saved on the trip can always be used for special dining and gift purchases. The central idea behind traveling by cruise ship is to receive a discount.

Traveler Beware

Although discounts are enticing, any deal that seems unbelievable probably is. You should be skeptical of online travel agents asking for high upfront fees and websites that offer cruises under $100. While every deal under this amount is not fraudulent, it is difficult to book any round trip vacation under $300. When searching for discounts, it is best to use company websites. Princess Cruises is an established business that offers an array of cruise specials departing from Miami. Although the goal is to receive the best discount on cruises from Miami, you don’t want to be scammed while searching.

There are two factors that are contributing to the growing optimism about the real estate market in Miami. One, affluent buyers are prepared to spend a lot of money to purchase property in the city. This is a trend that has it changed in the recent past and is contributing a lot to the optimism. The fact that people are ready to buy property is always considered a sign of economic recovery.

However, it must be noted that those purchasing the property are not really interested in residing in the same. It is not a proper real estate transaction. Rather, it is an investment where rich people are anticipating rise in demand for homes and are trying to buy early. There is a possibility that this may result in yet another bubble.

Another factor that has contributed to the optimism is that foreclosures and prosecutions have slowed down. The administration is working at its top speed to cut a deal with lenders to prevent people from losing their homes due to non repayment of the loan. If the attempts fail, foreclosures will start afresh. However, there is genuine hope that the deal will be struck and this will prevent the foreclosures from beginning again.

In such a scenario, supply of property available for purchase has dried up. This is contributing to the increase in prices as demand continues to remain high. This recovery may not last for long but is a welcome sight as compared to the horror stories that people encountered when the real estate bubble burst.

You may be surprised to know that there are specific bicycles for specific types of cycling sports. One type of bike doesn’t fit everyone’s lifestyle and activities. Here are some of the bicycles on the market that caters to specific sporting activities.

Road Bikes

Road bikes are typically lightweight and designed to ride on smooth services at fast speeds. You may be familiar with champion cyclist Lance Armstrong who uses road bikes when competing in cycling competitions like the Tour de France. One of the reasons why road bikes are ideal for road cycling competitions, is because the tires are pumped up with air allowing for a smoother ride with less friction.

Mountain Bikes

Mountain bikes are heavier than road bikes and have thicker wider tires that can withstand bumps and hard surfaces. This bike is effective for going up and down mountains, trails and areas that have steep incline and slopes. Mountain bikes have different gears, strong brakes and suspension handling. These features make the mountain bike very efficient for handle and control on rough terrains. According to Wikipedia, mountain bikes are used in cross country trail riding, trail riding, all mountain, downhill, freeride, street riding, dirt jumping and trails sports.

Bicycle Motocross or BMX

BMX is a bike used for extreme bicycle sports that typically involves riding on dirt tracks with obstacle courses and performing bike tricks. BMX bikes are usually made from aluminum and have a smaller gearing system than other bikes. The benefits of this smaller gearing are lighter weight and better clearance when doing jumps. BMX riding became an official Olympic sport in 2003.

Want to see Miami, Florida on the cheap? The city offers tourists something called a “Miami Go Card” that saves up to 55% off the cost of admission to 35 of Miami’s area attractions. Click Here to get your Miami Go card. Here’s some of the popular things to do and see.

The Monkey Jungle is a place where the monkeys run free and the people are caged. In south Miami, Dade County, people cautiously mosey through a series of wire pathways to view the monkeys up close, while protected. There’s a bunch of primate species in there, living and playing throughout the day in a way that people would never see if the animals were in cages themselves.

Then there’s Parrot Jungle Island. This attraction is educational as well as fun, since visitors get to see and learn about tropical Macaws and other birds in a faux-habitat that’s a copy of their natural habitats.

The Miami Museum of Science is a literal plethora of fun things to do and learn. Open to kids and parents of all ages, there’s a learning adventure to be had. This museum is also the home of the Bird of Prey Research Center and the Weintraub Observatory – two more attractions to see in one place.

The Florida Everglades are a mix of swamps and sub-tropical jungles that make this the most unusual park in the US. The southern-most tip of Florida is where the Everglades can be found, and the 1.5 million acres is home to 14 rare and endangered species of animals.

Get your Miami Go Card and then go! See everything!

Have you ever wondered how many terrible people might be living just down the street from you? Forget the John Wayne Gacy types, who could literally be in your PTA meetings. We’re talking about sex offenders, who by law are required to be registered and can easily be tracked wherever they may move. There could be a sex offender living right down the street from you right this second. When do you want to find out for sure if that’s the case?

Getting yourself a moving company quote might be a great idea if you find that your neighborhood is being slowly infiltrated with that kind of person. While it is nice to give people a second chance, some habits are hard to break. And when it comes to a type of sexuality that involves hurting children, it could all too easily be your children next. If you are cool with your neighborhood, you have one less problem to deal with. However, you might still want to check, just to be certain.

After all, there is nothing perfect in this world. Every neighborhood has the potential to have problems just like this one. Fortunately, you can check up on both your neighborhood and any others you might want to move to. If all else fails, you could always get to know the sex offender. They may actually be a nice person in most instances. While they shouldn’t be trusted to be alone with your children, they should still be allowed to feel like a member of the community. This type of acceptance might just be enough to keep them on a good and ethical path

There are numerous activities available for family members of all ages that encompass everything from getting exercise, casino fun and elegant wine tastings.

The exotic destinations are not the only exciting adventures and opportunities that are available on a cruise. These cruise deals give you total packages that include all of the excitement and your choice of activities that can meet any interest, taste, or need. You can have a great time on the ship by taking an evening to gamble in the casino after having an intimate dinner with your loved one. There is no end to the types of food that you can taste and enjoy on board. Endless supplies of various cuisines are always available for you to choose from.

If you love nightclubs and being social, then Southern Florida might be the perfect vacation destination for you. Miami, specifically South beach, is known for its active nightlife, and if you’re looking for some place fun, you’ll have a wide variety of places to choose from. Regardless of what you’re looking to experience, rest assured that there’s a club for everyone in South Beach.

Some people in South Beach head out to the clubs just for a night of fun with friends. If that’s what you’re looking to do, then spend a night at Mango’s Tropical Café on Ocean Drive. The central part of this club is where waiters and waitresses dance on the bar which is surrounded by a band. Mango’s has separate rooms for use, too, each of which boasts a different theme.

If you’re looking for a great experience during the day and at night, then why not check out Nikki Beach/Club O-1? During the day, Nikki Beach offers the typical beach experience, but at night Club O-1 opens it’s doors and becomes one of the hottest places to be seen after dark. There is a dress code at night, though, and it’s strictly enforced. If you’re heading here for the night, make sure you’re in line with the code. Apparel such as flip flops, sneakers, shorts, and t-shirts are just a few of the things that aren’t allowed.

South Beach is full of different experiences, and if “different” is just what you’re in search of, b.e.d. South Beach will give you just that. The restaurant offers patrons an actual bed from which they can order a wide array of food and drink, and on Sundays, there is “Breakfast in b.e.d.”

One of the most popular destinations on any vacation is the zoo. Depending on where you’re heading for that vacation, there may be more than one, and while it can be difficult to see them all, it can be done. If you’re next family vacation is to Florida and your children happen to love visiting zoos, then you could be luck. The state of Florida is home to some of the best-known zoos and animal exhibits in the United States, so if you’ll be heading to Florida soon, stop in at one and have a look around.

The Jacksonville Florida Zoo spans over 90 acres and was founded in 1914 with its first animal attraction being a red deer fawn. Since then, the zoo has relocated once and grown to its current size with numerous large animal enclosure and gorgeously designed flower gardens.

In Sanford, you’ll find the Central Florida Zoo. Home to over 400 different animals, this zoo is one of the largest in the state. In addition to the numerous animal sites, there is also a waterpark, as well as a combination rope bridge/zip line attraction allowing for aerial views of the entire zoo complex.

For an even larger selection animals, visit the Metro Zoo. This facility employs cageless living environments for its 1,400 animal species, making them feel as close to home as possible. Exhibits here are open-air and are similar to what an African safari would be like.

Each zoo offers something different. Rest assured, though, that any one of Florida’s zoos will keep the animal lover in your family completely satisfied.

If you just booked your dream vacation and are considering travel insurance, you would do well to consider its advantages. After all, if something unforeseen happens on the vacation, or even before the vacation preventing you from going, you could be out of luck. With the costs associated with vacations, obtaining travel insurance would be a good idea to protect yourself from these dangers.

The types of travel insurance are quite comprehensive. You can obtain travel insurance for a number of issues, such as travel delays, medical emergencies, trip cancellations, missed connections, and even war/civil unrest. Of course, these are just a few examples.

For some individuals travel insurance is a must. Those on Medicare would be strongly advised to buy travel insurance, for instance. It is wise to familiarize yourself with common travel insurance basics to learn if you or others in your group fall into such categories.

The advantages of buying travel insurance are obvious in many cases. For instance, if you miss your dream cruise due to a missed flight, you would be able to recover lost expenses. Lost luggage, traditionally never covered in full by airlines, could also be covered as well. This type of safety net can prove incredibly useful in a number of cases.

Look into the different types of travel insurance. Travel insurance is not an expensive option when it comes to the protection that it offers – as well as piece of mind.

Don’t forget to look into travel insurance for your next vacation. Feel free to shop around a bit to get a sense of the coverage that you can get, along with prices. Once you find something that is right for your needs, you should feel much more comfortable. You never know if you could have a delay that will cause you to miss your boarding time, after all.

Choosing a place to stay on vacation can be a difficult decision sometimes. If you’re heading to Miami/South Beach for your vacation, that decision can be even more difficult. Many people choose to stay in the lap of luxury, which can include a stay at The Delano Hotel on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. Rooms at this popular hotel run anywhere from $300 to $6,000 a night. Why is there such a wide range in price? Because there are numerous rooms to choose from.

The Delano Hotel opened in the mid-19902 and was completely designed by architect Phillip Starck and has gone through a couple different renovations since it’s opening. The renovations were undertaken by Banjo, a popular design and architecture firm.

The room choices at The Delano include:

Regular Guest Rooms: These rooms are anything but “regular,” even though they’re considered a bit small when measured to other rooms in the hotel. The normal hotel amenities—cable TV, refrigerator, etc—are available, as well as screens to block out the sun on those early mornings.

Bungalows: Being the biggest and most-requested rooms in the complex, these rooms include an oversized tub and “rainfall showers,” as well as an entire dining room table. Located just a few feet from the pool, a Bungalow is sure to be a lasting experience.

Penthouse/Luxury Apartments: Running at a steep $6,000 a night, these are located on the uppermost floors of the building. These rooms include extra large bedrooms and bathrooms (which are made from marble), as well as a full dining room, a large marble tub, a private balcony, and a fully stocked wet bar. One of the most popular uses for these rooms is private parties and/or other functions.

With all of the different options that are available at The Delano Hotel, there’s something for just about everyone. If money isn’t an issue, then perhaps a week long stay at the most popular hotel in the South Beach area is just what you need. Rooms tend to fill up quickly during certain times of the year, so be sure to book early!

In times of a shaky economy, high unemployment rates, and financial uncertainty, almost everyone is searching for ways to save some money wherever possible. Unfortunately, for many this means cutting out the much needed vacations. If you were planning a vacation to Florida, but aren’t sure if you can afford it, don’t despair—there are plenty of ways to visit Florida and still save some money.

If you’re visiting Orlando, but can’t afford the major theme parks, why not take the kids to Fun Spot? Offering go karts, as well as a wide variety of other rides, this one of Florida’s best 9and cheapest) alternatives to the larger theme parks. You can purchase an all-day armband for $25 to use on the regular rides.

Visiting the NASA Kennedy Space Center is another great option, even if you have children. The price of admission is $38, but it’s well worth it. Once inside, you can watch IMAX films on space, interact with a real astronaut through a neat exhibit, and even experience the launch of a shuttle.

For the animal lover in the family, the Big Cat Rescue in Tampa is a must-see attraction. With a low admission fee of $25, you can see the big animals such as lins and tigers, but can also view smaller felines. You also have the option for a tour during the day or at night.

A vacation to Florida can be very affordable if you know where to stay and which attractions to visit. To be sure you’re saving as much money as possible, the best advice is to plan your trip ahead of time.

Many people have a special attachment to their pets. They take their cats out for walks, carry their dogs in purses and backpacks, and spend money to make sure those pets have everything from the most comfortable bed to the most nutritional food to the perfect accessories, like collars and cold weather apparel. Pets are pampered and that’s no secret, and since they are considered to be a member of the family, many people take their pets along when they go on vacation.

Vacationing with a pet, especially for an extended period of time, can be a hassle sometimes. There are many hotels who won’t accept pets and finding ones that do can be an even bigger hassle. In some cases, you could end up staying farther away from certain locations than you had anticipated.

If you’re planning a vacation in Miami and would like to take your pet with you, you’re in luck. Miami has a number of highly rated oceanside hotels that will gladly accept pets in the rooms. While most people take cats and dogs on vacation, there are other pets who go along, too. If you’re planning to take an animal other than a cat or dog along on your vacation, be aware of the fact that most hotels define pets as cats and/or dogs. It should also be known that some hotels charge a fee to keep animals in the rooms.

Miami is a very pet friendly city, so don’t be afraid to take your cat or dog on vacation, too. The best advice, though, is to check with the hotel you’ll be staying at well in advance. Some information you find online may have changed, so it’s always best to call and double-check before making any definite plans.

If you’re planning a vacation to the south end of Florida, including Miami, doing some planning before you head there might be a good idea. Miami and the surrounding areas offer a vast multitude of activities, whether you’re vacationing alone or taking your family with you. It’s nearly impossible to see everything in only a few days, so planning is suggested so you can make sure you get to see everything you want. With so many places and activities available, it can be difficult to decide just where to visit. Take a look at the list below for a few suggestions on where to head when in Southern Florida.

If you’re a fan of architecture, why not make a stop at Vizcaya on Biscayne Bay? Built in 1916, the Renaissance-style Italian home used to be inhabited by James Deering, a well-known industrialist. Now a National Historic Landmark, you can tour each of the 34 rooms inside the mansion.

For the art connoisseur in the family, stop in at Miami Art Museum located right downtown in the heart of the city. The museum showcases many pieces contemporary pieces of art by such artists as Marcel Duchamp and Fernand Leger. There are admission discounts available as well.

Little Havana is one of Miami’s most popular neighborhoods when it comes to tourism. When wandering through the streets, you can hear traditional salsa music purchase authentic Cuban items, including cigars, sample Cuban cuisine, and visit art galleries and other shops.

For an alternative to the regular zoos, check out Monkey Jungle. This park showcases over 400 hundred different primates in the only semi-natural rainforest environment in the United States. You can view the primates through glass tunnels that run through the entire park.

These are just a few options when it comes to activities to participate in while on vacation in Southern Florida. A simple Internet search will turn up many more. Visit as much as possible—Florida has some wonderful attractions!

Distant lands, faraway places, where dreams meet reality with unforgettable experiences. There are many different exciting ways to see the world. So which tourist type are you?

1. The Flip-Floppers

You know this kind: they can’t decide on anything: what to do, where to eat, or where to stay. They’re very relaxed and tend to go with the crowd, or with whatever the crowd says.

2. The Preachers

The preacher knows what’s best for you, even though you don’t! They tell you what to do and when to do it. They probably make great friends for flip-floppers, no?

3. The Bromads

The Bromads are groups of men who travel, forming bonds and discovering the world together. They’re frequently found traveling world tours or extended travel excursions.

4. The Turtles

These are often new backpackers who consider themselves to be travelers and not tourists. They’re often well-educated, young, and don’t have kids. Why are they called turtles? They carry just about all of their belongings in their backpacks.

5. The Flash-Packers
To them, money is no object. They have disposable income to go anywhere, see anything and go whenever they want. Lucky dogs.

6. The Thrift Drifters

Is that another item from the hotel gift shop? Go figure!
The thrift drifters need help in deciding where their money is best spent. In contrast to flash-packers, these tourists are more concerned about costs, but for them, staying in a vacation rental property in lieu of a hotel is a much better option to help save cash. They can enjoy much nicer amenities, and still go home with money in the bank. That is, if they can resist buying another trinket from the gift shop!

7. The Gap-Packers
They are probably classified as travelers who are “between” life’s different stages. Whether it’s between school and their first job or something else, they’re traveling as a way to experience life before it moves to the next phase.

8. The Lone Backpacker

They’re more inclined to prefer solitude, serenity and peace. Alone.

9. The World Weary

They’ve been traveling for quite some time, and they’re pretty tired of the going. They’re not phased anymore by the excitement of it, but they also don’t want to stop. They would rather stay in some lame hotel than rent a vacation home that they can stay and play in.

10. The Meanderthals

Personal hygiene is not so important. Neither is where they’re traveling to next. It’s all a toss-up for the meanderthals, and they like it that way.

11. The Hitchedhikers

That’s the married couple who are barely speaking to each other. Bored, would you say?

12. The Chic Packer

This is the female traveler who never leaves home without her heels, blowdryer, or nail polish: the incessant diva.

Tourists run a wide range of eclectic characteristics, as their choice of travel destinations briefly sets them apart from most of society during their escapades, with different food tastes, entertainment choices, and social skills, but they all share the same commonality: travel. But no matter what kind of traveler you are, staying in a vacation rental is a wise choice.

If you’re a nature lover and are planning a vacation to Florida, don’t forget to stop at Boyd Hill Park Nature Preserve in St. Petersburg. Used as a refuge for native Florida wildlife, the park includes 245 acres of natural Florida beauty. From gorgeous flowers and plant life to birds and other wildlife, Boyd Hill is sure to bring out the best in every nature lover.

Within the Boyd Hill Nature Park Preserve are five distinctly different ecosystems. A trail winds its way through and around each of these ecosystems, offering some of the most beautiful views of the native scenery that Florida has to offer.

The Hardwood Hammocks are clusters of hardwood trees that provide shelter for birds and other wildlife. The Sand Pine Scrub is especially interesting because it uses fires to regenerate. It is also one of the oldest habitats found in the state. The Pine Flatwoods cover much of the preserve and are clusters of pine trees. These provide shelter for many of the plants in the park, as well as shelter for the smaller species of wildlife. The Willow Marsh ecosystem is indicative of much of the land in Florida, and the ecosystem along the Lake Shore offers a unique look into another piece of Florida’s landscape.

Boyd Hill is home to numerous species of wildlife and insects. The park is home to many alligators, which are the biggest attraction. There are plenty of walkways and decks specifically used for viewing these reptiles. Smaller wildlife, such as rabbits, raccoons, and even snakes are plentiful throughout the preserve as well.

If you or a member of your family is a history or wildlife fan, then a family vacation to St. Augustine, Florida should be near the top of your list of vacation spots. One of the oldest cities in the United States, St. Augustine is filled to the brim with history and offers plenty of fun activities for you and your family. One of the most popular places to visit in the city is the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park.

Founded in 1983 by Felix Fire and George Reddington, the park isn’t just a place to see where a bunch of alligators are located. After thriving, relocating, changing ownership, and continuing to grow, the park became a place of research in the mid-70s. One of the largest expansions took place in 1993, and today the zoo is home to a wide variety of alligators and crocodiles.

The park includes numerous exhibits, such as a Komodo Dragon exhibit, as well as an exhibit for the largest alligator in the entire park, Maximo, who weighs a staggering 1,250 pounds. There are also various shows to attend. Visitors can watch the alligators be fed a couple times a day. There are also informational sessions where you can learn about the history of the park, as well as about the different species of alligators and crocodiles throughout the park. There are also the Florida’s Forest Friends and Rainforest Review shows, which showcase parrots and other exotic animal life that can be found throughout Florida.

If you’re looking for the perfect place to hold an event, why not consider having it here? The Conservation Center located on Anastasia Island can hold up to 100 people and is perfect for a luncheon or your child’s birthday party.

When you go on vacation and leave some of your loved ones at home, you should send a postcard or buy souvenirs to bring home so that your loved ones don’t feel left out and to show them that you care. This is really simple to do and can be fun for you while you’re on vacation.

If you are going to a typical vacation destination, there should be plenty of opportunities for you to shop and select the perfect gift. You don’t even have to spend a fortune;just select something small that your loved one will appreciate. Some vacation destinations have entire stores dedicated to souvenirs, and they’d be a great place to start. Also, hotels often have small shops where you can buy merchandise to take home.

There is no use buying a gift that your loved one will never use. For instance, a miniature figure of the statue of liberty would be great to add to your collection of trinkets from your travels, but your loved ones might not have any use for it. Choose souvenirs like shirts, mugs, pens, and other things that can be of use. The souvenirs don’t even have to have any resemblance to the destination you went to. They can just be something that reminded you of your loved one.

It is also nice to send postcards. People feel good when they know you are thinking about them, especially when you are taking time off from being at home. This might even be when it counts the most. A simple postcard doesn’t cost much, but it can be worth everything to your loved ones.

And, of course, don’t forget to buy souvenirs for yourself. After all, you’ll want something to help remember your trip, and sometimes pictures aren’t enough. You don’t have to splurge, but a nice souvenir can be a cherished item in the future.

Most people are familiar with Florida and some of its famous cities such as Tampa, Miami and Orlando. However, they may not be aware of some of the exciting things to do when taking a road trip around Florida. Sure, you can visit Disney World, Busch Gardens, Sea World and Universal Studios, but what about some of the other things to do that will allow you to experience the culture and beauty of Florida?

One of the unique things to do in Tampa is the Big Cat Rescue where you can take tours and learn all about the big cats at the sanctuary. If you’re looking for a historic village with plenty of culture then you may want to take a trip to Ybor City. It was the cigar capital of the world years ago and is now a community that thrives with culture and history. There are fossil expeditions, museums and attractions, boat rentals, day trips and pretty much anything a family would want to do. The great thing is that you can find it all in these cities. It doesn’t matter if you love a quiet day on the beach, a hike through the forest or a day of shopping and dining out because Tampa, Miami and Orlando have it all in one convenient package. You may enjoy it so much that you search for apartments for rent in Tampa or any of the other areas nearby.

In fact, Florida is an excellent place to live, where you and your family can enjoy the beauty of nature and the convenience of big city living all rolled into one. So whether you’re visiting or decide to stay, there’s something for every single member of your family to appreciate. You’ll be welcomed to the area with open arms by the friendly Florida residents. Find your own piece of paradise in Florida and stay a while.

It’s no secret that Daytona Beach, Florida has become a big party city in recent years, most popular with college students who visit on spring break in March and April. This fact shouldn’t curb your ideas of taking a family vacation to the city, though. Contrary to popular belief, Daytona Beach has plenty of offer families, as well as college kids. If you’re planning a family trip to the city, take a look at the list below for some great family-centered ideas of what to do while visiting.

The Congo River Adventure Golf Course: This popular miniature golf course boasts a variety of holes—some inside caves, some uphill and downhill, and there’s even one hole where you must keep your ball from ending up in a river. You can even feed alligators before heading into the course if you want, and if that isn’t enough, kids can hunt for treasure as they play through the course.

Crabby Joe’s Deck & Grill: Located on the famous Sunglow Pier, this is the perfect spot to start the day with a good meal. While the menu is fairly standard (but include M&M pancakes), the restaurant décor is not. Wither mermaid-inspired themes and beautiful ocean views, Crabby Joe’s is a spot you don’t want to miss!

The Ponce de Leon Inlet Light Station Museum: If you’re looking for a history lesson, this is a perfect spot. The light house is one of the oldest in the country and stands at 175 feet. You can take yourself on a tour of the inside and visit the building that surround the lighthouse. These are all original and include items that families used years ago. If you’d like to experience a bit of the natural habitat that surrounds the lighthouse, there’s a nature trail that you can wander down.

If you are considering moving to Miami, whether it’s because you are retiring or because you are relocating there because of your employment situation, consider taking a vacation there first. While it’s true that you’ll probably being doing a lot of touristy things when you travel there, you can still get a feel for the city and surrounding areas.

Plan your vacation schedule to where you can go on fact-finding missions in the morning then enjoy the recreational opportunities in the afternoon. Maximize your time, by looking for a home during the day, and enjoying fun activities in the evening. Make the most of your research time by talking to a realtor in the Miami area. Give the realtor as much information as possible so that he or she can provide you with information on neighborhoods or suburban areas. Then, take what you have learned and do any additional research, such as finding out about schools, churches, and community centers, or about accessibility to medical facilities, or whatever is appropriate for your situation.

Once you have determined where you will live in Miami, start getting moving quotes from different movers. Moving companies may determine their prices in different ways, so it’s a good idea to get several different quotes. For example, one moving company may quote you a price based on the distance between your old home and your new home. Another company may offer moving quotes based on the size of truck that will be needed, or on the amount or weight of the household items you will be moving.

For a guy, proposing is one of the most stressful things you can do. There is so much planning on what to say, where to go, and whether or not she will say yes. There is so much to think about that the ideal situation is to have a place that takes so much stress out of the equation. Well, Ocean Drive in Miami, Florida is the perfect way to ask that special someone to spend the rest of their life with you.

If you have everything else you need, from one of the exquisite Tacori engagement rings, to right words you have been thinking about since the day you bought the ring, then your stress will be reduced. Now all you need is the perfect setting. Ocean Drive has long been known to tourists as one of the most breathtaking places in the state of Florida. Its endless shore of beaches and its gorgeous climate are the most important aspects of the perfect engagement story.

Ocean Drive will take the stress out of the engagement question. It will put your beloved in a relaxed, and romantic, state of mind. She will be captivated by endless ocean and the shimmering sun setting and the reflection of the ocean.

Of course, there is more to it than just beautiful scenery. There is also the beauty of creating a memory that is bigger than just the moment. She won’t ever forget where she was or what she was wearing. She will remember every second and to do it in one of the most beautiful destinations in the country will just add to the lore and legend of the moment.

But don’t forget to have the ring right. Nothing derails a proposal more than a disappointing ring. Tacori engagement rings are your best bet if you are looking for the perfect complement to a question she has been waiting for you to ask forever.

If you and your family haven’t gotten enough of Harry Potter and his friends from the smash-hit series by J.K. Rowling or from the ever-popular Hollywood films, there’s another exciting experience available—The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure. As soon as you and your family step through the entrance gates, it’ll feel like you’re in an entirely new world.

This popular new “world” is meant for kids of all ages, as well as adults. Because of the breadth of what’s in side, there’s bound to be something for everyone. Here are a few of the attractions within the world:

Visiting Ollivander’s Wand Shop is a must for any visitor. The wait to get in can be lengthy, though, as only twenty guests are allowed in at any given time. In the gift shop, you can purchase the wands used by just about any character in the books and movies, including Hermione and Harry Potter himself. If you’d like, you can also buy the wands in a set, but be aware that they can be a bit on the costly side.

Hogwart’s Castle is the most popular section of this attraction, as parts of it are constructed from items used in the movie sets. You can walk through the Forbidden Journey and visit different rooms such as the Dark Arts Classroom, as well as Dumbledore’s Office. At the end of the walk is the chance to go on a 4-D ride.

The world wouldn’t be complete without rides, right? There are three main rides and the wait times can be lengthy, depending on how busy the attractions are when you’re visiting. There are rides available for every age bracket, including Flight of the Griffin for smaller children.

The WIzarding World of Harry Potter even has an exclusive restaurant, Three Broomsticks. You can sit inside or outdoors and the menu includes the typical restaurant meals. No soda is served here. Why not try some pumpkin juice or Butterbeer instead?

If you’re planning a vacation to Key West, Florida, one of the activities you should have on your list is scuba diving. The ocean waters around Florida provide some of the most beautiful underwater scenery in the United States. Key West is home to the only living coral reef in the country, which is one of the largest reef systems in the entire world. As such, be assured that you will have plenty to explore from shipwrecks to underwater animal and plant life, even if you’re new to scuba diving.

Because Key West (and Florida in general) is such a popular destination for scuba diving, there are a number of resorts you can choose from. Each provides a different experience, so if you’re looking for something in particular, it’s best to plan where to go before actually going. Read on for some idea of where to go for scuba diving while in Key West.

The Sand Key Lighthouse Reef stretches around the all-iron Sand Key Lighthouse. The ten-mile stretch of reef is protected, so if you’ll be exploring here, make sure you be extra careful. Depths in this location range from 40 to 60 feet, assuring great views of the reef and sea and plant life.

With a fairly shallow depth of ten to 25 feet, Nine Foot Stake is one of the most popular places for scuba divers and snorkelers. Colorful sea life is abundant in this location.

The Cayman Scavenger Master was originally used as a minelayer ship by the United States Army, but in 1963, it became a research ship. It sunk a short time later, was resurfaced for transport in 1985, but sunk again as it was being moved. To dive here, you’ll need an advanced diving certification or a guide, but you’ll see a wide variety of sea life, including giant grouper and green moray eels.

If you’re up to heading thirty miles away from Key West, you can dive at Looe Key Reef Marine Sanctuary. This location offers a wide variety of aquatic life, including sea turtles and sting rays.

Compared to other parts of America, Florida has a considerably warm climate throughout the year because of the sub-tropical and tropical mix of climatic conditions. Interestingly, Forbes Magazine in a 2008 survey had ranked the city of Miami as “America’s cleanest city”. Now that is quite an achievement for a city that has been a tourist’s heaven since a very long time. Also, Miami was ranked as United States’ richest city in 2009 among 73 countries surveyed and also the fifth richest among them with respect to purchasing power.

The port of Miami, located on Dodge Island is famous among tourist destinations. Sometime in the 1990s, a great hurricane had struck the port of Miami that split the Miami Beach’s southern end and created what is now known as Fisher Island. Soon after, the incision was scoured along with a fresh channel to set up the Bicentennial Park in the lower part or business center of Miami. The Main Channel was thus created because of this new access and it led to great improvement in the shipping access to this brand new port. It was from these original scouring spoils that new islands were involuntary created and these later became Lummus, Dodge and Sam’s Island as also many other small islands. With the passage of years, the port grew steadily in strength and that led to improvement in shipping access as well as growth and prosperity among the South Florida community. There was the added necessity for supplementary lands in order to expand its operation. This led to the construction operations towards setting up of the new port of Dodge Island. This was done by joining other smaller islands near to it and expansion of the island. As the years passed on, several other institutions like the administration building, railroad bridge, transit sheds and new seawalls.

The magnificent city of Florida is located in the south-eastern region of the State of Florida of the United States of America. Florida happens to have the largest coastline among the 48 States of America barring the States of Hawaii and Alaska. Miami is also the most densely populated State in America.

The Miami port is known widely as the “Cruise Capital” as well as the “Cargo Gateway of America”. Since long, it has been able to retain the reputation of being the top cruise/passenger port among all. It accommodates some of the biggest cruise ships and also has under its operation some of the best names in the Cruise Liner industry. The port of Miami and the Deep Dredge Project are slated to be completed to function by 2014. In fact there are four main projects in the port of Miami: the Miami port, the Deep Dredge project, port of Miami tunnel and the bridge or rail line restoration that constitutes the link between the mainland and the port of Miami. The Miami port tunnel is approximately a $1 billion project that plans to be the connecting link of the port to all main highways. This ambitious project is expected to roll out by 2014. The Miami port Deep Dredge project will permit the entry of Super Post Panamax Mega-ships into the United States post completion of the expansion of the Panama Canal. Looking at future prospects, the Norfolk, Baltimore and New York ports have been deepened up to the required 50 feet. There are also the necessary funds coming in nicely in a bid to complete the motivated project within the slated time. Experts predict that this project could catapult the cargo business of Miami to an all time high in the subsequent years besides creating a plethora of job opportunities. This should be able to attend to the rising unemployment problem facing the State of Miami.

The State of Florida is located to the west of the Gulf of Mexico and it has enhanced its importance in the trade business. One can understand it from the fact that the port of Miami is called as the “Cargo Gateway of America”. This port has been handling containerized cargo and also miniature cargo ranging from vehicles to industrial equipment. This port happens to be the biggest container port in the entire State of Florida besides being ranked ninth in the USA. This world-class port is rightly placed among the privileged set of ports and it attends not just containerized cargo but also cruise liners.

From the economy point of view, the port of Miami is a crucial as it contributes hugely to the southern part of Florida’s trade business. Cruise liners constitute a majority of the traffic movement in and around this major seaport every year. This has led to the creation of jobs and has had a profound impact on the economy leading to a very stable balance of trade for the State of Florida. Going by the statistics, it is safe to say that the southern part of the United States is heavily dependent on the port of Miami in terms of creation of employment opportunities as well as a stable economy in the region. The port presently functions eight passenger terminals and six huge cranes, seven docks besides having four yards for heavy containers, cargo warehouses and nine container handling cranes. The port tenants operate both the cargo and cruise terminals that include the support equipments and cargo handling gear.

In a desperate to retain the port’s top rank, a redevelopment program was launched in 1997 with funds touching a landmark over $250 million. This has been a massive step in accommodating the rising demands of passengers, carriers, shippers and cruise vessel operators.

The Miami region of Florida had been an area of occupancy for the Tequestas, a Native American tribe for around a thousand years. Later, the area came under the Spanish and this led to the construction of a Spanish mission there back in 1567. The Fort Dallas was built there in 1836 and the entire region was engulfed by the Second Seminole War. Located on the Miami River’s banks, Fort Dallas was an important military base. This fort rested in Union hands at the time of the American Civil War but was later abandoned.

Also known as the Florida Wars, the Seminole Wars were actually a series of clashes in Florida among Native American groups, all collectively referred to as Seminoles. Their allies as well as the US Army were also actively involved in these wars. The Second Seminole War lasted from 1835 to 1842.

Miami is supposedly the only foremost city in the USA that was envisaged by a woman named Julia Tuttle. She was a native citrus grower. In fact, the area of Miami was popularly called as “Biscayne Bay Country” during the early phase of its growth. The region had also been widely described as a promising wilderness. It was also illustrated as one among the best building sites in Florida. During the Great Freeze (1894-1895) the crops of Miami were the only ones that survived while all others collapsed. With Henry Flagler, an industrialist, Julia Tuttle managed to give official recognition to Miami as an urban centre in 1896. From a population of just over 300, the city of Miami began to prosper in the 1920s, witnessing a rise in population as well as infrastructure only to be weakened after the downfall of the land boom in Florida. The Miami Hurricane in 1926 and the 1930s Great Depression only added to its woes.

With an area of only 92 square kilometres, Miami has one of the smallest areas among other major American metropolitan cities. The city is bordered by the Everglades and Biscayne National Parks on the west and east respectively. The average elevation of the landmass is about 6 feet with a maximum elevation of about 40 feet above the sea level. The highest undulations are seen in along the coastal area of the Miami Rock Ridge. The chief portion of Miami is situated on the shores of the Bay of Biscayne that contains numerous natural as well as artificially produced barrier islands. The largest among these barrier islands are the South Beach and the Miami Beach. The warm ocean current of the North Atlantic runs close to its coast and this is one of the reasons for the warm temperature prevailing in Miami all year round.

After the prosperity seen in the 1920s, Miami witnessed a progressive weakening in its development following the Miami Hurricane and the 1930s Great Depression. Soon the World War II made Miami an important base thanks to its suitable location. The German submarines could be counter-attacked from Miami’s location in the south coast of Florida. The war saw a rise in the number of population of Miami. The Latin American Wars fought against American imperialism, especially by the Cubans led by Fidel Castro, made them take refuge in Miami thus further adding to the population. In the 1980s and 1990s, several crises faced South Florida like the beating of Arthur McDuffie and the follow-up riots, drug wars, the Elian Gonzalez uproar and the Hurricane Andrew. Yet, in the 20th century latter half, the city of Miami rose as a major financial, cultural and international center. The entire metropolitan area in and around Miami grew from a handful of citizens to a record five and a half million people in just over a century.

The city has been also nicknamed as “The Magic City” because of such stupendous growth from all perspectives. Visitors visiting Miami after a few years gap find it astonishing to have seen such exemplary development of a city that was only born a few decades ago.

Miami is characterized by a typical tropical monsoon climate that is Am according to Koppen’s widely recognized world climate classification. This type of climate is illustrated by hot and humid summers and warm, short winter season that is comparatively drier. Other major factors influencing Miami’s climate are its position just over the Tropic of Cancer, its sea-level height, coastal location and also its proximity to the warm Gulf Stream in the North Atlantic Ocean. Rainfall is also low and temperatures scarcely come down below 2 degree centigrade. The maximum high would be in between 21 to 25 degrees.

The month of May marks the beginning of the wet season that ends only by the middle of October. Temperatures are comparatively higher during this phase and there is also a subsidence of high relative humidity. However, the heat is relieved mostly by thunderstorms or sea-breeze in the afternoon which develops near the Atlantic Ocean. The maximum rainfall of the year is witnessed during this particular period. There has never been an accumulation of snow in Miami and it was only in 1977 that it faced snow flurries. Otherwise, the weather is relatively moderate throughout the year and this brings in tourists almost incessantly the entire year. Having said that there is a note of caution tourists take during the months from June to November as this is the time for the subsidence of hurricanes. This is the official time for the hurricanes to show up! But the most likely time is at the onset of the Cape Verde season that occurs in mid-August and lasts through till the end of September every year.

Located in the Southern tip of the State of Florida, Miami is bordered by two National Parks – Biscayne on the east and Everglades on the west. The city was established by Julia Tuttle, an illustrious citrus grower. The city is hugely popular among tourists because of its varied tourist attractions. It comprises wildlife areas, picturesque tours of the historically important landmarks, nightlife, family activities and also the “Millionaire’s Row”. Both adults and children can equally enjoy the beautiful places in and around Miami that also includes large aquariums and zoos. The Everglades National Park is the largest among all subtropical wildernesses in the United States. It is also a sustaining habitat for rare as well endangered wildlife that includes the manatee. The Biscayne National Park has about 95% of its area covered with water. It contains islands, endangered wildlife, around 500 fish species and coral reefs. The park also has provision for outdoor activities that include hiking, canoeing and guided boat trips. There are also more than one thousand birds, more than 2000 plants and angiosperms and reptiles, alligators and other aquatic animals among wildlife species.

There are several performing arts theatres and museums for those having an eye for art. There is also the popular Miami Children’s Museum that presents interactive activities and games for kids. It includes a tall piggy bank, a sandcastle and also a health center. The Jewish Museum has a collection of family photos, artifacts and several immigration papers that were donations from the residents of Florida. There are also two nicely restored synagogues in the same museum. The Artime Theatre offers operas, symphonies dances as well as stage performances.

Miami exhibits a multicultural heritage that stems from its varied culture of the inhabitants since the past. They include the Seminole Indians, Latin American immigrants and also the Spanish explorers.

The neighborhoods, streets, people and annual events held in Miami give tourists a glimpse of the blend of the multiple cultures that seem to have left their marks behind. From the Seminole Indians to the more recent Spanish explorers and Latin American Indians, you will get an insight to almost everything. The historic monuments and landmarks are pleasing to the eye and there are also the National Parks and museums to enjoy for tourists of all age-groups. The best thing about Miami is its climate. Driven by the Gulf Stream of the North Atlantic Ocean, the temperatures remain warm throughout the year. Rainfall is also moderate thanks to the tropical monsoon climate prevalent in the region.
There is this historic”Colored Town” of Overton named so because of the allowance to the African Americans to buy land in the beginning of the twentieth century. Miami’s Freedom Tower that was built in 1925, used to serve as the office of the Daily News as well as the Metropolis till the end of 1957. It used to function as a National Registrar of Historic Monuments and also was operated as an immigration station for refugees from Cuba from the years 1962 to 1974.
There is a lot of variety in the cuisine in Miami from Latin flavours to seafood and American cuisine. There are a number of nightclubs having live music shows and superb dining facilities. Dishes in the restaurants come with a blend of tastes borrowed from a variety of cultures. Nightlife is indeed fun for tourists coming to Miami. Certified Angus beef is available in Hereford Grill along with seafood dishes of Venezuelan style. Food is generally served on bamboo trays by waiters. Guests pass through the velvet rope at night to enter the rooms with glistening lights and beds.

It’s not just the outdoor events of Miami that draw the attention of the curious traveler but also the inherent arts and music culture of the place. What makes it even more interesting is the fact that the place had been the home for many different cultures and people from the Seminole Indians to the more recent Spanish and Latin American cultures. Music and arts, language and traditions were thus influenced in a large way by its short yet fascinating history. Miami is easily one of the favorite destination spots from among the countless ones in the United States. The city has been growing by leaps and bounds and the population is also in an ever-increasing phase. The beaches, the clubs, the wonderful climate and hype make it an ideal aim for the fun-loving tourists.

The Spanish population is larger than any other group but there is an even distribution of people of other origins too. The parks and museums are becoming an essential part for the city population and the fact that Miami is located in the crucial zone of the Gulf of Mexico makes it a port of immense importance for the United States. From cruise liners to heavy container ships, the port of Miami is well-equipped to handle everything, having at its disposal a number of advanced utilities from mighty cranes to huge dock yards. The traffic in this port is increasing and a number of other links and bypasses are being constructed to ease the hectic working schedule of the port. From the economic aspect too, Miami has been at the forefront of the United States trade balance. The area has managed to ease the pressure off the State of Florida by handling a variety of products from processed food to industrial equipment for Florida effectively.

Apart from the historic places on offer, Miami is respected widely for its emphasis on the simultaneous development of art and culture around the place. Many prominent museums are located in the Downtown area of Miami that include the Jewish Museum of Florida, Miami Art Museum, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Bass Museum, Frost Art Museum, Lowe Art museum, Coral Gables Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Wolfsonian-FIU Museum, Miami Children Museum, Historical Museum of Florida, Miami Science Museum and Miami Cultural Center.

Miami also happens to be the chief fashion center among others and is home to some of the finest modeling agencies and models of the world. Miami hosts numerous fashion shows as well as important events that include the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and the yearly Miami Fashion Week too. The world’s largest exhibition of art, called as the “Olympics of Art” is organized in Miami annually every December. It draws in thousands of art lovers and visitors from across the world.

From a touch of historical traditions to modern day amenities, Miami provides all to the tired vacationers. The Cuban influence is visible in the city’s culture and being only about 110 years old since its recognition as an urban center, the city has been progressing rapidly on all fronts and has been a regularly large contributor to the economy of the United States. The flamboyant lifestyle of the residents along with the beautiful spots backed by mild climate makes for a wonderful trip to Miami. Also, there is the easy accessibility to the place that is an added advantage and the city has rightly cashed in on the opportunities provided since its inception in 1896 on the initiative by Julia Tuttle. The port of Miami has also manifested itself well with the modern times and is a source of income and job opportunities for the local people.

Cuba has a major role in shaping the culture and spirit of the city of Miami. The year 1959 saw the rise of Fidel Castro and the decade that followed, saw a flood of immigrants from Cuba entering into Miami. Most of these immigrants settled in the Miami River side, now known as Little Havana. Another surge of Cuban immigrants was seen in 1980 as over 100,000 refugees flooded into this area. Thus, the Spanish speaking culture came in direct contact with the authentic culture of Cuba that came in directly from Cuba.

Large shipment of drugs scoured in and replenished the luxury aspect of Miami. The famous show of the 1980s – “Miami Vice” was born out of this. This culminated into the tropical paradise image of Miami that was to be. In 1992, another destructive hurricane – Hurricane Andrew struck the city but this time the multi-cultural strength of the region assisted in healing the wounds left behind and it only gave birth to a steely resolve to fight the misfortune and rebuild the place that has finally become one of the favourite hotspots among holiday destinations every year.

The prevalent culture in Miami is vibrant and dynamic and has been heavily influenced by the Latin ways. Immigrants from Cuba, Puerto Rico and Haiti, among others are generally found. According to the statistics of 2003, 58% residents of Miami were foreign born. It is not very uncommon to hear English being spoken on the streets of Miami. There is wide variation in the people’s background, traditions and cultural celebrations throughout Miami. There is also a comparative difference in wealth that is generally noticeable. While there are individuals living in well furnished flats and driving fancy cars around the streets of Miami, you will also come across people with moderate lifestyles having little income and living in the suburbs and sub-towns of Miami.

Located in the southern tip of the State of Florida, its foremost inhabitants were the Tequesta Indians some 10,000 years ago. Their stay was comfortable until the Spanish decided to claim the land during the sixteenth century. The shift in the global outlook towards Miami happened only during the 19th century. Suddenly, the place saw itself rise as an international hotspot. Seminole Indians along with the natives of the Bahamas came to Miami and helped the residents to salvage shipwrecks. Thus, the entire culture of Miami was painted in a colorful mix of a number of varied cultures and that gives it the identity that it has now. The rich citrus grower, Julia Tuttle was the one responsible for the establishment of the city of Miami in its present form. On her persuasion, the wealthy tycoon named Henry Flagler expanded a railroad to Miami and built a layout for the city as well as a luxury hotel. With a population of only 300, Miami thus became a part of the United States of America in 1896.

After some impressive progress shown, the city was hit by a powerful hurricane in 1926, which in addition to the destruction of thousands of houses, also killed some hundred people. This led to the beginning of an even tougher time-period marked by devastating storms and the Great Depression of the 1930s. However the State jumped back impressively with the boost provided by the aviation sector and Pan Am, who succeeded in finding tourists by phrasing Miami as the “Gateway to the Americas”. This led to a surge in the economic growth of Miami and there was the added population splurge due to the World War immigrants that saw a rise in the population.

Heavily influenced by the earlier residents of the region, Miami has evolved as a multi-cultural city with a mix of modernity and traditional values within a century of its admission as an official State belonging to the United States. The population is a happy blend of people from Spanish, Latin American and Seminole origins. The Cuban culture too has had a reflective influence on the traditions and lifestyle of the people of Miami. One can note the subtle variations when one hears the typical “Miami accent” that has a different rhythm and pronunciation style among the natives. Cross culture has been a hallmark of the city what with the flooding of a large number of immigrants right since the World War II ended. The Cubans also came in swarms after the first decade of Fidel Castro’s rise.

Miami is located at a very suitable position enabling its development as a port of excessive importance dealing in large cargo ships, vessels as well as cruise ships. The dockyards are sophisticated enough and can handle heavy cargo and traffic in all seasons. The State of Florida has also made provisions for bypassing the heavy traffic by building linking bridges in and around the port of Miami. The Cuban exile community is found in Little Havana region and this area is populated with a number of restaurants, record stores, car dealers and food processing and cigar factories.
The place is nice for exploration as there are a number of registered historical places of prime importance and the museums, art centers and parks make for a wonderful treatise of knowledge. The fun-loving ones find solace in the numerous popular beaches of Miami and the dance clubs playing some nicely fused music and there are plenty of dining parks for the foodies that serve from seafood to modern American food.

Miami, the Cruise Capital of the world is popular for many reasons. Be it its history, culture or climate, it is a tourist’s paradise. Many popular television shows have been based on this city and of late it has also become a very popular destination for the reality television shows. Because Miami is a center for film production as well as for Latin television, film producers really relish the place. Many Spanish shows are also based on Miami because of its past links with Spanish culture. A variety of game shows and news programs have been filmed in and around Miami. There is this most famous film shot in Miami, named Sabado Gigante among others that still remind few of the places.
For recreation and commuting, the Government of Miami has initiated an event called “Bike Miami”. In this event, the major streets like Brickell and Downtown Miami are closed to vehicles and allowed for only pedestrians or bicyclists. This event was started in back in 2008 and has become exceptionally popular with the number of participants only increasing every year. This massive event happens to be the largest one of its kind in the entire United States. More recently, the city has been designed such that there are special routes and avenues coming up exclusively for the pedestrians and cyclists. Together with it, parking lots for cycles are also being constructed. In a recent poll held in 2010, Miami has been ranked forty-fourth among the bike-friendly cities of the United States. The road system in Miami is based on the numerical “Miami Grid”. However there are a few exceptions to this grid rule as mostly the local avenues Downtown follow the numerical grid system. There are six major causeways in Miami and all major routes are well connected by these. On the flipside, it is a well-known fact that Miami happens to be one of the most dangerous places for pedestrians.

The mayor-city commissioner system is prevalent in the city of Miami in Florida. There are five commissioners that are elected from the districts. The governing body is constituted by the city commission having ordinance passing powers as well as powers to adopt regulations. The mayor is generally elected and it is he who appoints the city manager.
There are a greater number of Spanish language speakers and that makes Spanish the first language of Miami. A considerable portion of the population speaks English though. Other languages are Haitian Creole and French. In minorities, there are speakers of Portuguese, German, Italian, Arabic, Chinese and Greek as well. This has created marginal problems for the English speaking population to conduct efficient business because of the constantly increasing Spanish population of Miami. In the United States, Miami stands as forty second among the most populous cities. The urban agglomeration of Miami is rapidly increasing with a population closing in to about 2.5 million. The population density in the central business district areas is also burgeoning. The civic engagement of Miami has got considerable room for improvement as has been evident over the years. The people in Miami have a typical “Miami accent”. Its specialty lies in the pronunciation and rhythm variation which is a result of the Spanish language influence among the locals. The second and third-generation Hispanics was the cause for the development of this particular accent. However the same accent has not been acquired in all places of Miami.
One of the largest media markets of the United States is located In Miami and it also happens to be the second highest in Florida. There are a number of major newspapers published from Miami; the El Nuevo Herald is the largest and major Spanish language newspaper. It has its headquarters in Downtown Miami.

Among tourist options in Miami, there are many museums and historical places but for the music-savvy tourists too, Miami music offers refreshing change. From Cuba came the conga and rumba and blended in well with the American culture. The bachata and meringue were introduced by the Dominicans while the vallenato and cumbia came from the Colombians. If these were not enough, the West Indians and the Caribbean people introduced soca, kompa, calypso, reggae and also the steel pan. Huge hits from the 1970s are played in the clubs and discotheques and the tourists really can enjoy the wonderful musical environment created around the place. Miami is rightly called the “hot spot” for freestyle and dance music. The freestyle is actually a dance music that used to be hugely popular in the 80′s and 90′s. it is heavily manipulated music with application of hip-hop, electro and disco music. In fact a number of popular Freestyle acts originated in Miami, like Stevie B, Pretty Tony etc. Iron & Wine and Cat Power – Indie/folk acts are based in Miami.
The popular dance and vibrant techno form has a profound place in the Miami culture. It is because of this that Miami hosts the famous Winter Music Conference that happens to be the largest dance festival in the world. Also, there is the Ultra Music Festival and electronic themed festival and celebrations that form an integral part of the music bonanza on offer. The famous nightclubs like Space, Parkwest, Ink, Cameo and Mansion are home to the music crazy fans and the city is rightly adjudged as a part of the popular clubland along with Ayia Anpa, Ibiza and Mykonos.

The temperate weather of Miami permits all year round outdoor activities and celebrations. The numerous bays, canals, marinas and rivers along with the Atlantic Ocean adjacent to it accounts for the activities like sailing, fishing, boating etc.

The city of Miami is the ultimate destination for a traveler taking an active interest in outdoor activities. There are plenty of coral reefs in the Biscayne Bay that makes it a wonderful ground for snorkeling activities and scuba diving too. They are located at very accessible places of Miami and provide a nice ground for relaxation and other outdoor activities. Other important parks are Crandon Park, Watson Island, Pace Park, Virginia Key and Botanic Garden. Among other popular destinations, St. Bernard de Clairvaux Church, Miami Seaquarium, Coral Castle, Zoo Miami, Junglr Island and Charles Deering Estate stand out.
In the arena of entertainment and performing arts too, Miami is exceptionally well-placed. This is the second largest performing arts institution in the United States of America after the famous Lincoln Center located in New York. It is also the location of the Florida Grand Opera. Inside it is the Knight Concert Hall, Ziff Ballet Opra House – the largest venue of the center and the Carnival Studio Center besides the Peacock Rehearsal Studio. In this center are held a large number of ballets, concerts, operas and musicals by artists from all over the world. It is undisputedly Florida’s most majestic performing arts center.
